Company Technology
As already mentioned, LTC designs, engineers and builds large format cylindrical Li-ion cells and engineers and builds custom Li-ion batteries, assembled with its standard cells, complete with battery management systems. The cells LTC offers are one of the Unique Selling Points. They have high power (most amperes per watts per kilogram). Furthermore they are the largest Li-ion cells produced (most energy capacity).
Due to its long term focus on large Li-ion cells and batteries, LTC has developed process technologies and cell designs that give the company a competitive advantage in applications demanding the storage of a large amount of energy and / or the ability to deliver high power.
Emphasis in technology development has also been put on safety, environmental compatibility and cost. The unique manufacturing process of the electrodes of its cells can be classified as environmental friendly, especially when compared to conventional processes. The unique cylindrical cell design enables high power discharges with little heat generation. This not only simplifies battery design and ergo the costs, but more important it significantly reduces the risk of a ?thermal runaway?.
The company?s batteries are sold under the GAIA brand name and trademark. LTC?s products are protected by a broad portfolio of patents. 54 patents are issued and 39 applications are still pending. These patents protect our proprietary environmental friendly production process and the company?s ability to manufacture large format cells. Until now the company used these patents exclusively for its own production process. In a later stage the company will investigate the possibility to license the technology to other cell/battery manufacturers.
LTC has a strong believe that its knowledge and expertise in the manufacturing of large format cells is and will be a strong competitive advantage.
LTC?s current Product Portfolio consists of:
- Cylindrical cells ranging in capacity from 7,5 Ah to 500Ah.
- Cells are offered with NCA (NICoAl) and with LFP (iron phosphate) technology
- Two basic types tailored to different applications.
- The one is optimized towards high energy content
- The other is designed to deliver maximum power
- Battery packs are delivered up to 800V to customer specifications.
- Battery packs include an intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) for better safety and cycle life.
