Hybrid vehicles

Hybrid-vehicle batteries need to have a high charge rate and relatively low discharge level, oftentimes in the neighbourhood of 5 to 10 percent. This necessitates high-power cells, and at GAIA we offer a range of options for various applications. Low capacities such as those offered by our 7.5 Ah NCA and LFT cells are generally ideal for hybrid vehicles. Our batteries handle with ease discharge rates ranging from 10-20 C and lifecycles extending over thousands or even hundreds of thousands of charge cycles, depending on the model.

Plug-in hybrids

The installed power for plug-in hybrids normally ranges from 4 to 15 kWh, for which 20 to 60 Ah batteries are used. Most plug-in hybrids integrate large lithium-ion batteries. In order to avoid contacting faults, as well as the extreme technical complexity (or even unfeasibility) entailed by cell monitoring systems, large battery cells such as our 27 Ah, 45 Ah, and 38 Ah LFP should be used

Electric mass transit vehicles

DuraCar Quicc - Elektro Kleintransporter

The installed energy for these vehicles ranges from 40 to 100 kWh so as to allow for maximum range. The moderate discharge rate of 2 C and discharge level of 60-80 percent needed by electric mass transit vehicles call for the use of High Energy cells. Large lithium ion cells are coming into increasing use, as they avoid circuit switching problems with the thousand of cells that make up such batteries. Our intrinsically-safe 38 Ah iron phosphate cells are ideal for such applications, as are our High Energy 55 Ah NCA cells, which are often used for these types of vehicles.

Starter batteries

Starter battery

The development of iron phosphate cells paved the way for the introduction of lithium ion starter batteries. A series of four 12.8 V LFP cells combined with suitable capacity already allows for optimally light and efficient starter batteries that not so long ago would have been the stuff of science fiction. The ideal cells for these batteries are GAIA?s 18Ah LFP and 36Ah LFP, for which a compatible battery management system will be available soon.
